VTEC problems
Depending on condiditons, vtec usually kicks over around 5400RPM. The first noise you hear are the secondary butterflys opening around 4700 IIRC.
btw, its VTEC not VTECH

5500 rpm is around the normal VTEC (no H) crossover point. 4000 rpms is entirely too low for engagement. you also need to be WAY more specific with your problem. if you expect someone to help you diagnose your problem over the internet you have to give them tons of info: mods, miles, previous problems, transmission, etc.
lets clear some things up. first, sorry to put an H in VTEC. second, the secondary butterflys opening now makes sense and no the VTEC didn't/doesn't kick at 4k rpm. Now that i am done being a moreon, the car is base, I only have an AEM cold air intake, it does have 120k miles on it (but I bought it with the intention of a a rebuild or droping in a new motor, waiting till after winter). I do have a suspition the VTEC controler was tamperd with at one point befor I bought it and joe shmoe cob jobed it when "fixing" it but I'm not sure. But i have noted that it does seem to work better (but not as good as befor) after I have been driving it for a while. when it does finaly kick in it is still at 6k rpm not the normal 5400 ie: still late and not as much power. So are there any ideas?
