Default Information on turbocharging a D15

I sold my buddy a '91 DX hatch with the D15. He wants to build the engine and add a turbocharger @ around 15 PSI boost.
I'm not asking for opinions on what anyone else would do to the car or with the engine, I need information on this subject.
He wants to know about what compression pistons he needs an what - not. Any other suggestions to improve the engine? Does anyone know of a good tubo kit that would do what he wants. This is to be a test & tune, play around with drag car.

Thanks

15 psi on a d15, atleast from what ive read, would be disastrous without a built bottom end. someone with more experience on the matter should chime in on why this may or may not be a bad idea though. from what ive read, i think the d15 rods are some of the smallest, least beefy rods you can find in any d series. this does not bode well for turboing. and as far as i know, there is not a turbo kit you can just buy. you would have to build one yourself. on the plus side though, d-series engines are cheap, so if you blow it up, its only like $400 to get a new one. good luck though.

Do a mpfi swap! Then get a D16a6 or a ZC and boost it!!! The stock platform will handle up to 10psi reliably. Why build a D15?(unless you do a mini-me then you still need MPFI). That much effort and money why not start off with a good platform? Just my opinion.

go to homemadeturbo.com and click on turbo projects, it will show you all you need to know about turboing a dseries motor.

Thanks for the info.....Yeah, as I said, he plans on building the engine...top and bottom as much as possible. I agree with you sanimalp, but it's not my deal...he was going to put in a 1.6 dohc or 1.8, but figured it to be cheaper to beef up the 1.5 and force alot of air into it. I did find a few turbo kits for the 1.5 on EBAY and another site that was WAY expensive, but came with alot of beefy go fast parts. The kits I saw on EBAY were around $300-400, and didn't come with the real goodies. I think if he goes the cheap way, he won't get what he really wants. If he goes the $ 6500 turbo kit way.....well, he doesn't have that kind of money right now to put into it.
Any more info is appreciated and thanks again to those that replied.

D-series.org-Forced Induction Forum why does everyone think that psi is the limitng factor for how much power a stock block can handle? a small turbo @15 psi on a stock d motor is grey area but doable. a big snail pushing less psi could break the motor, but i would honestly say the limit is in the tuner's abilites

if you want to run that much psi....get vitara pistons.....they are cheap and a great improvement......also if you get a d16 use zc rods or d16a1 rods since they are a little stronger and depending on us set up just get good tuning and fuel......
