Default Is this motor stolen?

There is a guy selling a b18c1 in a 93 civic for $4800 but he has no paper work for the motor... how can I check to see if the motor is stolen? I know the number is on the block but can I run the vin # on carfax to see if the motor is legit or stolen? or would I have to bring the block and vin # to a cop for them to run it thru their database? or do i have to let the dmv run the #?

heh...if you're worried about it being stolen then stay away from it...if you really wanna know...get VIN #'s, part #'s, and descriptions, and ask the Police if they know of anything like that...if the guy looks shady chances are...he is....good luck though!

yea that same question came to my mind "how is it that the cops have a data base of ur engine # if when u go and register ur car u only give them ur vin # not the motor # is it the same or is it diferent chassis vin # to the engine vin #" how is that a cop can tell if the motor is stolen ? i heard some ppl shave the vins and then they write the block # with hot letters and they hit it with hammer anyone knwo

sorry for my english ...............

call CHP and get verification on the block #, they can run the numbers on the block and track them via stolen vehicle report, and the dealership can verify it for them!

good luck!

or the motor was not stolen and beaten to death by the previouse driver. Have you see or drove this car in person. Also that price is not a steel unless the car was taken very good care of.
