I have a 00 civic dohc. Over the past week and a half this clicking has been growing louder and louder. It seems to be over the cylinder 1 or 2. Im going to do a valve adjustment on those cylinders and the other ones while im at it.

If that doesnt fix it, what else could be causing the clicking?

Any help would be appreciated.

It seels like it might be the injectors or the valves but the sound of the valves when i hear them, they seem muffled. THe noise seems to come from the very rear of the valvecover or the injectors.

Also....if they are the injectors, how can i test them to make sure?

but it sounds like you need a valve adjustment like you said... but just check to see if the clickings coming from your injectors... because they like to make a loud ticking sound

I really think it might be the injectors because when i put my ear up to the valve cover i could hear the rockers and everything clicking but they were quite and muffled like they are supposed to be. What would be wrong with the injectors to make it do that?

THe reason also y i think its the cyl. 1 or 2 clicking because the noise is comming fron the VERY rear or the valve cover or the very spot where the injectors are connected to the block

would that cause only one to make that noise then?

 

I have this same problem and I have adjusted the valves. Its not the ticking sound the injectors make it is a much louder clicking sound.

 

I have the same problem in my EH, bump. I need to know to.

 

get an automotive stethescope and you can isolate the noise you are hearing in under 5 mintues

 

or you can use a flat head screwdriver

 

I have a similar problem but the noise sounds more like a knocking sound that gets louder as the rpm's get higher. I just had my rod bearings replaced bout a week ago. Anybody know if the valves could be making this noise or if its maybe the rod bearings again? Thanx.

 

Check for exhaust leaks. Around the exhaust manifold/header especially. Usually means you need a new exhaust manifold gasket, as well as getting it resurfaced. HTH.

 

does anyone know how much a valve adjustment would cost at a shop, i don't really have the time to do it, but i want to get rid of this knocking too.

 

Deffinately depends on your area and what not. Last time my buddy got his done, it ran him $100 even.

 

Not too likely but make sure the sound is not coming from the timing belt cover.

thats crazy.... you can buy a set of feeler gauges for what...6$.... and do it in your driveway in about an hour....

 

Yeah, I totally agree with you there, but he asked for a ballpark figure for a shop, so I gave it to him. Adjusting valves is like changing your oil..Easy once you do it.
