Default Zex 59300 (d16z6) in a d16y8 - What to do? (SOHC_MShue - help!)

So my engine is a d16y8. I had a skunk2 cam gear lying around for a z6 and now I want to buy a zex 59300 because I can get one cheap.

So I need to know how to put a z6 cam gear and z6 cam in a y8 head. After reading the archives, I see that SOHC_MShue had a lot of problems with this. How did you finally fix everything?

My main questions are:
1. Do I need to adjust the cam timing by 5 degress even if I am using the z6 gear?
2. What do I need to do about ignition timing?

Even though I'm using a z6 cam gear? I thought it only had to do with where the woodruff key is located.

I have a z6 cam gear and it seems to run great with the cam gear advanced between 4-5 degrees so yea...about 4.75 or a half a tooth.

So that's all you did? Seems like you had a hell of a time. Do you have to change the ignition timing also?

And yeah, I wish I could PM, but I'm a newb again . That's why I have four different user names, because the stupid forum software only lets me post 5 times a day with each name

yea it took me a while to figure out if that was the right place or not. I just wanted to make sure it was right. It still seems like it should be off to me because it is a z6 cam and a z6 cam gear, but i've tried a bunch of different settings and this seems to be the best. As for ignition timing make sure that you have a timing gun handy to readjust it after adjusting the cam timing.
