I recently acquired a block that was supposed to be sleeved. I have never seen a sleeved block before so I didn't really pay much attention. I bought 81.5mm pistons and I've already had the block machined for them. Turns out that they are stock sleeves.

Does anyone know if this is going to drastically reduce the strength of the sleeves to the point where I shouldn't even bother with this motor. I'd like to make at least 300hp at the wheels. I still have the option of giving this block back.

I'm using a 20G mitsubipoo poourbo with the greddy kit with the front mount intercooler upgrade and hondata. Bottom end has 81.5mm Rollerwaves, eagle rods, blockgaurd and stock sleeves. Do you think my goal of 300 hp is going to be safe on these .5mm oversized sleeves? I'm fairly new to the turbo stuff...I know that for n/a .5mm over is perfectly fine but I've heard differently for turbo.

With proper tunning a b18c can hold 15psi on stock sleeves. The .5mm most likely weakend the strenght of the sleeves. i suggest getting the block resleeved. That way, you can acommadate the your new pistons with reinforced sleeves, run more that 15psi and achieve your HP goals.

 

20 over (.5mm) is cool still..

 

Yea, I agree, don't go turbo until you have the interior prepared. If you don't have the money, IMO it would be a better idea to use the stock pistons, install the turbo, then when you have the money to sleeve, do that and swap in the new pistons.

 

I would love to have my block sleeved, it not the money thats holding me back, its the down time. I can't afford to be without my only car for so long. Im just going to have my current block bored .5mm over or new pistons and hope it holds. Im going to run .5 bar most of the time, and 1 bar everyonce and a while.
I'll have hondata so the tuning will be right.

 

I wouldnt sweat it. .5mm over is still retains the strength of the sleeves enough to handle boost. You basically need to get the sleeves bored out...if the block has any miles on it the cylinders turn a little oval...blowby occurs if severe enough. Stock sleeves have been known to handle upwards of 20psi. Sleeving is def. the way to go, but i am deciding to skip getting my block resleeved. I look at it this way...with 300-350hp at the wheels on tap at 15psi, how much more power do i really want for my daily driver. The tires just become liquified already at 10psi. You need to asses what you want out your car, then proceed from there.

You know, even without the group buy the price is only $750 for a D15, D16, B16, B18!! That isn't bad. Go price it somewhere else and try to get the quality and reliability that Golden Eagle Mfg. offers; plust the warranty that no-one else offers but us! Just a thought!
