What's better...internal wastegate or external wastegate????
I have the chance to buy a used T3/T4 turbo. I don't have much info on it...I'll be finding out more on it later...it's one of my cousin's friends that's selling it. Anyway, what I do know is that the guy bought it to use it on a VW Corrado G60....I know there is much difference between Honda and VW engines, but the turbo seems like its in good condition. Looks a bit rusty on the turbine side because it was sitting in the guys garage for a while.
Now comes my question, the turbo is internal wastegated...I have heard that internal wastegates limit the power you can make. My goal is to reach 300 whp. If the car comes out making more, then cool, but my goal is 300.
Now, does internal wastegate or external wastegate make a difference? I know I have to wait to get more info on the turbo to see what good of a condition its in. I'm getting a deal on it...so I kinda wanna jump on it, but if its just gonna cause me headaches later then I'll pass...Also, if internal wastegate will limit my power production, then I'll pass on it too.
What would yall recommend? Keep in mind that this is going on a 97 B18C1 Integra that is bone stock...the motor will have upgraded 9.5:1 JE pistons and Eagle rods before I boost it. Also, I want the motor to remain streetable. Also, I don't know what trim or A/R the turbo is.
Please help me.

i would deff. recomend an externally gated turbo especially if you want 300 hp and are upgrading the internals.....Imo,internally gated turbos are just to limited... i used to have and internally gated turbo it would always spike...a pain to have and external dump made for it, and also felt choked out on the topend....
you have much more control w/an external, can run more boost, and i personally love the sound of a open gate dumping...check out http://www.phoenixturbo.com for a great selection of t3/t4's at sick prices....you wont regret it.
Also be weary of buying used turbos you dont know much about.
