Turbo Rebuild
What would be an average estimate on rebuilding a T3/T04 turbo...I got an estimate from a guy for a 100 dollars including labor since I know him through work...Thats sounds like a good price, but I just wanted to get some feedback before I had him do it...

Phoenixturbo.com charges 300.00 plus shipping. I just got mine rebuilt at a local shop for 400.00. It was a little expensive but they gave a 90 day warranty. 100.00 sounds like a great deal if he's replacing all the seals and rebalancing it.

Yea, prices for rebuilding turbos, do sound damnnnn expensive. For a little more you can literally buy a new turbo. But for $100 bucks..wow.. Good deal
( Unless hes doing on the side, buying rebuild ktis from Ebay, Online stores, etc...?)
I wonder, How hard is it really to replace seals etc? Since sometimes rebalancing, isnt really neccesary is it...-=P ) Anyone ever rebuild their own turbo before? From rebuild kits etc, and hows the outcome of it..? Im sure it isnt rocket science, right?

Re: (synik)
Thats why I recommended turbo city, I get all my rebuilds that I do done there!
If the turbo is out balance , its like retainers at 9k rpm, ounces become pounds! The bearings are made of soft brass , so if the out of balance force pushes againts one way, the compressor wheel will eventually hit the housing.
I mostly do Mitsu hybrid turbos td04 -05-06 and in parts alone I spend $80 with only a seal kit! Major kits are even more. So in my opinion $100 bux sound fishy. IMO
PS. No its fairly easy to do , but it is tedious!

Re: (Bh8teen)
$100 for a turbo rebuild is VERY cheap considering if the guy knows what he's doing and knows how to rebalance the shaft. turbo technology in my town charges $325 for a turbo rebuild. . cheapturbo.com charges $250 with free return shipping. cheapest place i've found so far. but then again, a turbo rebuild isn't too hard to do by yourself.

The guy has his own shop and basically is doing it at cost from what I would assume...He has a badass 6th gen hatch with around 355 whp...I don't know what he would normally charge but he seems to know what he is talking about...He's cool though...a country black guy that wears a do rag and rides around with a bunch of guys...one of them being a middle aged guy with a twin turbo supra...Guess he decided to get a supra instead of a corvette or something gay for his mid life crisis... HAHA
