Default Knock Sensor Wiring Question

I am using a 94 GSR engine harness with my 93 Civic cockpit harness. Since the Civic cockpipt harness does not have a knock sensor wire that goes to the ECU, I unplugged the RED/BLU wire from the passenger side shock tower on the GSR harness and extended a wire through the firewall into D3 on the ECU. However, my CEL code 23 keeps coming up after I take my car for a spin. I know some people on here run a wire directly from the sensor to the ECU. Since I'm going through the engine harness, do I have to tap the extended wire to a ground source or anything of that nature? Or do I need to use a shielded wire?
