Default Wiring Diagram Question

I'm looking at my Helms manual in the Electrical Connections section and I see that the Knock Sensor wire (RED/BLU) goes directly to pinout D3 on the ECU. This wire is a solid line. However I also see a dotted line that is completely parallel with the solid line that goes to the ECU. The dotted line seems to be connected to other dotted lines that are on the TDC/CYP/CKP Sensor, etc. My question is, what does this dotted line represent? I know it's kinda hard to describe this in words, but I don't have a digital camera at the moment. So if you own a Helms manual or know what the hell I am talking about, please shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

I'd be glad to help. The Dotted line represent shielded wiring. Shielded wiring is like a regular wire, you have the conductor in the middle and the insulation on the outside, but shielded wire has extra. The shielded wire has a normal wire, surrounded by a mesh of wire and then a another insulator over that. The shielding, the mesh surrounding wire, is grounded. Sensitive sensors like the o2, knock, CKP, CYL, and TDC sensors share the ground for the shielding. The shielding protects the signals from Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).

Beautiful explanation! You're the man! Thanks. So are those wires for the O2, knock, TDC, etc. physically connected at all or are they just all shielded because by the looks of it in the manual they are connected.

yeah, only the shielding shares the ground. The internal wire acts just like normal. Those damn diagrams are confusing because it almost looks like all the wires are connected but its only the shielding that is connected. Glad i could help you out. You made the question really clear so it was easy to understand you.
