Default Brakes Question

HT'rs,

I'm in the process of tryin to get new front rotors, front and rear pads, and a new master cylinder. My questions is, should I go with Honda and get them from there? (this guy I know that works there is quoting me $295.00 for all those parts) Or should i just go with some stuff from like Napa, Carquest, Pepboys, or any other store like that? Just to try and keep the cost down a little bit? Another thing my mechanic is charging me like $350.00 to do put all that stuff on, including bench bleeding the MS and bleeding the system once its in. Is that a decent price? If anybody has experience in this matter, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Assuming you have a 93 Si hatch:

Master Cylinder: $160

Front Pads: $40

Rear Pads: $45

You can get Front Rotors from Import RP (here on HT) - he sells Brembo blanks for like $25/piece.

So yeah, $295 is not a bad price especially if you're getting everything from the dealership. Everything above still has to have shipping tacked on.

Assuming your mechanic charges about $75/hour, this comes out to about 4.5 hours of labor.

But now you gotta ask yourself - for $350, how many needed tools could you buy and just do the job yourself?

You can at least do the rotors and pads yourself. The master cylinder is not too bad- a few bolts- just make sure you get all the air out of the system- This is a good diy project to learn with. Aftermarket will serve fine- unless you want to go ahead and upgrade.

This is what I was going to suggest. He also sells PBR / Axxis pads for about the same or less than OEM (depending on what you go with) and it's a far superior setup.

http://www.importrp.com If you do a search for brembo in the sponsor section, you will find thier post. PM him for special H-T pricing. I've ordered from them 4 or 5 times, and they're fantastic to work with.
