Default Budget-build daily-car.

So I currently drive a 1990 Mustang notch with a 5.0 and a few mods(Bored, shaved and ported heads, cam, gears, trans, injectors, chip)....It fuggin burns gas like there's no tomorrow.

So, I want to buy a crx....But I want it to be pretty quick. What should I do to make it quick? I'm talking low 13s high 12s, so I can have a little fun on the weekdays too.

I'd like to keep it as cheap as I possibly can(The stang needs a stronger trans and a 150 shot of nawwz), but I realize it will cost a little bit to get it to run 12s...

Any suggestioins?

is this your first honda? if so you are gonna see that modding a honda to make HP is alot more expensive than a domestic.

Either way most people will say get a CRX and put in a B16..then turbo. that will be a fast daily driver

I've seen a few cases where the car was built on a tight budget, and still ran like a raped ape.

I'd do the work myself, so that will save some cash...I'm sure I can find a b16 for pretty cheap...I'm in chicago...the things are everywhere.

But yeah...
This would be a longterm thing...I need 2400 for the following for the stang:
C4 trans: 800
3000 stall converter: 250
edelbrock intake: 600
NOS 150 shot: 700

So these domestics are pretty pricey too(but this stuff will get me into the 11s).

b18 with a turbo kit would be the prime candidate but thats only if you know what you are doing, its pretty easy to do and cheap if you know where to look. honestly if i were you i would buy a nissan 240sx and turbo the stock engine...... check out ka-t.org

If you want a quick Honda, the price of the car plus the parts you need to break into the low 13's will be equal to and more than surely put you over $2400. I love Hondas, but I also know that a 5.0 Stang has just as much potential to run quick times at a low cost as your budget Honda project and with this in mind I say build the hell out of that Stang, it will be faster and more cost effective, even though it eats gas like a hog, its rear wheel drive you can whip shitties all day in the Wal-Mart parking lot, lol. Just keep that in mind when you make your decision.

cheap and fast?
Keep it light - 88-89 CRX HF stripped as much as sanely possible

75 shot +big injectors large-ish 4-1 header + slicks might get you low 13's like Mista_Bone, with enough practice.

Good luck

ive seen beater 240s with ghetto 300 dolla turbo kits break 12s on 10psi with all season radials. a ghutted hf would be easy squeezie too you just have to re learn the launch if you arte used to rear drive, d16a6 si tranny 50 shot ihe and cam in a gutted hf could do 12s ..

what is your budget?

Any b series is going to cost at least 7-800 for all the stuff needed just for mounts, linkage, axles, etc. Then you gotta get the engine which is going to be from 300-XXXX. Probably rebuid it which is going to cost 200-whatever. Before this you have to buy a crx which is also going to cost anywhere from 200+ and probably fix the problems with that. Probably should buy slicks if you're going to hit 12's and you'll probably need nos on top of that.

So it's possible to hit 12's but is probably going to cost you at least 4k. I'm hoping to hit high 13's with my car in it's current form and have spent a lot more than I'd like to say. However the knowledge I've gotten while working on this car should allow me to make a really really quick car in the future.
