noob here, need help with motor selection from people with experience
im thinking about getting a honda as an everyday driver that i can just **** around with. i was looking more towards the 92-95 civic hatch's. my plans for the car are to have a streetable car that runs high 12's. i also want to turbo the car and mite throw in a bottle to get me into the low 12's. now i dont know **** about hondas but ive been working at a honda dealership and ive just gotten into the cars. i dont really want to spend a whole bunch of money cause i start college this year and i need to pay bills.
so basically my question is, what would be the best motor for me to run a turbo, have no driveablity issues and run high 12's. now i no i said i need to pay bills but im still willing to spend some extra money if needed but nothing to radicle.
thanx

low 12's on a budget is gonna be hard. pick 2/3
-power
-reliability
-cheap cost
you can only have 2 so choose well, my suggestion is buy a hatch and drive it until you can afford to do what you like (after college). nothing worst then breaking something you cant afford to repair.

ok so ill pick power and reliablilty. i dont really no what these cars are capable of so maybe 12's is to much. what would it take to get into the 12's for me with a turbo? i was thinking about just a motor swap and a turbo and of course all the other things ill need like fuel and suspension, but i just want to get the turbo and motor out of the way first. i work at a honda dealership so i have all the help i need and i found a complete ls swap for $1800, so im prolly gonna end up working off that.

turbo=drivability problems
I would say... nice hatch $3k, ITR motor $5k so you got $8k invested. Now do you know how to put it in? From what it sounds like, the answer is NO. Maybe somebodey at the dealership would help you for a few hundred. So I would put another $1k aside for install and misc parts. (just to be safe) So now your up to $9k, not a very smart investment for a college student. Fun but not smart. And I have to add, 13's would be if you are a good driver.
opt 2. crappy hatch $1500, b18b motor $2k, turbo kit $3k, install $1k. That's $7500 total. It has potential to be MUCH fast then opt 1 but with ALL the problems of a turbo car.
I would just buy a nice hatch right now, do some research, and figure it as you get money to thro at it.

Do you have to have a car for college? If money could potentially become a problem (and since you do need it for college) then I suggest you hold off on the idea.
Half the people who sell stuff on Classified are the ones who jumped into the game too fast, spent too much, then realize they can't afford all the mininum payments and the bills are pilling up so they are forcing to sell.
But the choice is yours.

Build a tubo d-series for less than half the cost.
If you put that 1800 into a z6 instead, you could build the block to handle as much boost as you want (hypothetically). Then, if properly tuned, you also wont have reliability issues. The idea that a turbo car isn't reliable is absolutely-retarded (no offense). Its all about tuning.

So your saying a turbo car, properly tuned, is just as reliable as a NA car?
That is just retarded(no ofense ). Drop a b18c5 in a car and do NOTHING to it. Then turbo one, and tune it all you want, and see which on would have more problems. I mean, come on, can you honestly sit there and think that?
order of reliable cars- NA> supercharged> turbocharged
