Default vtec on valve cover...

hey i found a 95 civic coupe in the junkyard....pretty sure its a ex cuz it kinda resembles having a sunroof, power windows/locks/a/c, so i'm pretty sure its the ex model.

My questoin is this, pretty much only thing visable of the car is the motor and its in real goood shape, i wasnt looking for the vtec solenoid or vtec stuff on the motor but i noticed it didnt say VTEC on the valve cover???

If its a Z6 head is it suppose to say vtec on it?? which ones do?? which ones dont

I think he said 95.
And I don't think any year had vtec stamped on the head....valve cover, maybe, but no heads.

"d16a6" is not stamped anywhere on the head. Look for the block stamp to the left of the exhaust manifold right where the block and transmission meet. You may need to wipe it off if it is dirty.

And on the VTEC sohc setups. The spark plugs come out the front rather then the rear side of the valve cover.

On this year car, the plug wires will give it away, but on the newer cars, even if they dont have VTEC, the plug wires are towards the front of the car... For instance the D16Y7...

Front (looks just like the older 92-95 VTEC engines, the plugs are towards the front:

Back (no VTEC silinoid):

Engine swaps are common... the previous engine could have bit the dust and the only on hand could have been put in.

And to answer you question, my Z6 valve cover does NOT have vtec on it.
