how can you tell if your car is overheating if the temp gauge is broken. I think I have a small wiring problem, temp gauge goes to hot when ever I put the left turn signal on. really started to do weird things after I replaced the temp sensor.

 

i'd fix the needle, other than that i dont know...

 

i do not even want to think about getting uder there with a multi meter and trying to find the short. my overflow tank does not overflow or boil as I have seen in other cars that overheat

 

you can measure the voltage at your ect. engine coolant temp sensor. its a 2 wire sensor on the head. plug in some paper clips and check the voltage. when its normal operating temp it should be about .5 to . volts. any less than that it is overheating..

 

when mine overheats, it always idles high then low very noticeably something wrong lol

Also, I'd just install a $20 aftermarket temp sensor if you are worried. Run it through the firewall and drop it in your cup holder until you get everything sorted out.
