Default Running Too Rich, Engine Code 5! HELP!

OK. Ls Vtec swap, b16 head, b18a bottom end. Car idles at 2000 for a day straight. So i adjust idle and check oil. Oil is low and when I adjust idle the cars idle drops to a low and rough idle. Take it to the shop and they replace my fuel fowled plugs and coil. Also, they told me my cylinder placement sensor was bad so I replaced the OBD0 distributor...brand new. Now that it is done I drove the car and the CODE 9 that it was throwing is gone. However getting about 120 miles to a full tank and running very rich (black smoke). Timing is fully retarded due to the high compression CTR pistons. 3 hours of driving later the ECU throws a code 5 and the car changes from a low idle to a 1200 consisten smooth idle. ANY IDEAS ANYONE? I'm STUMPED. Vaccum lines are disconnected everywhere but have been since the swap, 2 years later i cant imagine it is the disconnected lines. HELP!

there's a problem with your map sensor.....depending on what type you have it should be easy to find the problem.....

If you have the firewall mounted map sensor then you need to check the vacuum line that is connected to it.

If it is on top of the throttle body then you need to take it off and check the o ring and see if it is sealing correctly...

hope this helps

checked the vaccume line. it is clean, no rips tears or holes. it runs from the bottom of the Map Sensor (on the firewall) to the top vaccum fitting on the throttlebody (ls throttle body). the car is a 91 integra. presumably it is hooked up correctly as the car was running fine and it hasn't been changed since the problems. Could the sensor itself be bad? Do the other vaccum fittings on the throttle body and intake affect the MAP SENSOR. because i have disconnected vaccum fittings from the swap but they have always been like that. so once again i cant believe that is the problem. is there a way to see if the sensor itself is bad?

It will show a code 3 if the sensor itself was bad electronically....it had to be something with vacuum....try it at another port on the manifold...like where the regulator is hooked up....see what happens then

where the fuel pressure regulator is hooked up? do i need to hook the regulator up somewhere else? also could this be causing a loss of oil? is the black smoke oil burning or running rich?

black is a rich condition but if you are burning oil at the same time you wont notice it as much as the rich condition......for this test you can leave the regulator unplug if you like...but try and keep it pluged in aswell

ok, so i hooked the MAP sensor up to a different nipple on the manifold (the correct one!) and i believe the code 5 is gone for good. hopefully this will solve my running rich problem but im still losing oil...piston ring? valve? head gasket?
