So here I am a COMPLETE beginner.When I say beginner, I basically mean that I haven't done anything myself when it comes to cars but I have basic knowledge of various aspects of the car. So onto my question...

I have a base model prelude..I believe its the S model with the F22 engine. I want to add a turbo and I want to know if its pssible even though I have no modifications as of now. I do plan on adding things with my turbo(if I can even add one) but I'm here for suggestions and pointers on what to do. I will be doing the install myself with a friend who is ASE certified and specializes in honda engines. I'm here on the forum to learn for myself and also see what else can be done to the engine to improve the performance of the turbo...

Yes - you can turbocharge that engine. Should you do it first? No. My personal opinion? Resleeve the engine, get some 9.5:1 pistons when you do that, THEN add the turbo setup. In fact, when I get my next car, my VERY FIRST mod will be an AEM EMS so that when I get to the turbo, I won't have to worry so much about it.

 

Anyone know of a repuatable place to get a good turbo for my car?? Price range??

the life of your engine will quickly diminish.

be ready to spend a lot more money.

it is going to be the cost of the money for the kit AND a hell of a lot of other things.

things tend to break a lot more with a turbo.

you can build a decent turbo kit for less than $2000. start off with a dsm manifold which you can get for less that $200 new, a big 16g turbo for like $600, find a decent intercooler, piping, bov, dp, and a few misc pipes. and tune it to about 8psi and you can get 200whp and alot 220 or so ft lbs tq.

those numbers are based of of similar setups on f22 accords.

if you drop in forged pistons and rods the stock sleeves can handle about 15psi with proper tuning alowing for close to 300whp.

 

There are many ways of doing many different things with your car. First, determine exactly what you want to do with your car. Second, determine how much money you're willing to pour into your car, and over how long of a time period you want to. Next, determine if you have the tools, space, and knowledge to do your own work.
