WASTEGATE DUMP TUBE???
what are the bennefits of leaving the dump tube venting into the atmosphere versus merging it into the downpipe? I am about to install my Drag kit w/ T60-1 turbonetics turbo on my GSR and would like to know this before I do it. I do realize it will be louder if it's open, but is there a performance gain at all from it? Please let me know.
when you dump it out you hear it , and you gain like 3 hp not much alot of people route it in the down pipe for noise levels. you ony hear it at full boost anyways.

hehehe, the poster already knows that. He wanted to know what the pros and cons are for venting it to atmo.
Like jdmhonda says it will be a lot louder when it opens up, but you will get a little more power. You'll also want to route the dumptube so it doesn't let the gasses out under the hood/car. Passenger side would be best so you dont have to listen to that loud BLAATTTT---BLAATTT---BLAATTT sound of a open dumptube.

How would you gain horsepower by venting it to the atmosphere rather than the exhaust?

depending on the design of the closed loop setup, it usually causes turbulence in the exhaust flow.

yup, open WG here. soon to move my fan and put on my dumptube. here it is with a slight clean and still... see the black-ness!

If you vent into the atmosphere, route the dump outside the engine bay if possible. Otherwise, you'll enjoy the smell of exhaust/fuel in the car after boosting. If you route back into the downpipe, try to route it further down to minimize any exhaust turbulance. The loss in HP is minimal from what I've heard.
I run an open dump... my dumptube points down to the ground..
It's really loud and annoying, but we all know noise = power so it's all good
I don't like mine because of the noise but I'm too lazy to route it into the downpipe... my next setup will definately not have an open dump..
Some people love it, some people don't, but I really don't think routing it back into the exhaust is going to change the horsepower much, not enough to notice I don't think. As long as you connect it into the downpipe 18+ inches from the turdblow...

That's clean
I'm thinking of doing just that but having an e-cutout also.

if you arent in any hurry i woiuld go ahead and put one on it will dump carbon EVERYWHERE!!!! i currently dont have one though...to make my post valid dirtyness is a CON lol
i also run open loop wastegate set up... im sick of it... then again, im ALL about sleeper-ness. If you guys saw my car you would really think its just a clean and stock integra for the most part. Intercooler is black, exhaust is quiet and black. But damn does the open wastegate just give it away. This summer i just might route it back into the exhaust, well see.

.....how much does that dumptube flare out to?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Downpipe ist 3", Wastegate is 46mm and from the wastegate discharge it opens up from 1.75" to 2.25". Transition is from Burns Stainless.

im running an open dump. yea it gets loud, but whatever. a negative to its loudness is that it can inhibit you from hearing mild detonation, which is lame.
as for open dump turning your engine bay black, just have it dump out as far back and low as possible. mine dumps just below my oil pan, kinda near my lca. you can see it in the pic.
