Default Curious about Civic HX vs Civic EX

I took my Cold Air Intake out and now my mileage is 37 mpg.

I like that, I was wondering if I could pop in an HX ECU and get an even higher mileage... or are the engines too different?

Thanks

HX has V-tec E. Which your EX does not. I think swapping ECU's would just be retarded and make your MPG go even lower.

Engine technology is different. If you want to up your gas MPG more, get a full tune up.

HTH.

The HX gets better gas millage because of VTEC-E, the head works complitely different than the EX (vtec-e @ 3k rpms, different cams). So if you swapped an HX ECU in there your car will most likely run really shitty.

Would definitely not be worth the cost.

vtec-e operates on one intake vavle up until 3000 revolutions, thus making the run rather lean, until vtec-e steps in and opens up the the other valve, also the entire vtec assembly is different on the hx's vtec-e, vtec-e usees a rocker that is similar to a roller rocker.

just some intersting points about vtec-e

these are completely 2 different motors. you will throw some of codes if you swap ecus'. first of all the hx has a EGR valve which the ex doesnt. thats one code. second the o2 sensors are 5 wire which the ex has 4. the head is completely different. the cam only has 2 lobes. just pri and sec, which the pri is larger than the hx. so switching the ecu, like someone else stated above, which make your car run like ****. get a tune up and an intake or something.

On my car I swapped out the intake for the stock airbox and noticed an improvement from 270miles per tank to 300miles per tank. I don't think you can improve your milage much, except keeping the engine tuned and tire pressure up.
