swapping an hx for ex
I am in the process of swapping a d16y8 for my d16y5. Before I thought the only wiring difference would be the o2, which was pretty simple. Now, i've discovered that the stock hx wiring harness doesn't plug into the ex ecu. Has anyone ever done this swap? Is it okay to use the stock hx ecu with the ex motor? Any input would be great!
Thanks

Re: swapping an hx for ex (BlueRex12)
if i were u i'd keep the HX. the EX doesnt make that much more horse power, not too long ago there was a thread where people argued that an HX could beat an EX. i dont know but it was something about the valve opening, lift somethin like that. HX gets great gas mileage and super efficiency. I think you ought to keep it.

Re: swapping an hx for ex (BlueRex12)
The hx is a vtec-e engine, which means it is a more efficient engine and it does, in fact, have the same wheel horsepower as the ex. Although, the hx also has hella long gears, which really suck! I appreciate the gas mileage, but unfortunately I've been forced to buy a y8 swap because I can't find a replacement hx. And i've realized the problem isn't the wiring harness, rather the year of the car. The hx is from a 97 so it's obd2a and the ex I've purchased is an 99 or obd2b, so the ecu's are different. I'll need a 96-98 ex ecu to run and I just didn't consider that when purchasing the y8. Thanks for the opinion though, I would have liked to keep the gas mileage, but the hx definately is inferior transmission wise.
