Rev Limiter
Is there anyway to deactivate the rev limiter on the 5th gens? I was looking at the crower VTEC cams, and I could rev up to 8200, but I think the rev limiter kicks in before that. What would I have to do?
Leave the rev limiter till you get new valve springs and retainers. Otherwise, you're just gonna float a valve. Not pretty.
As far as getting it bumped, members Prospeed or ImportReview can help you on that.

that's not gonna take care of everything buddy. cams by themslves may give you more HP pass the redline, but you gotta upgrade your valvetrain if you want rev higher. gotta get new valve springs, retainers, etc etc...
Yea, I know. I was just making sure it can be done when needed. I know the ECU in the 5th gens is not programable, so just trying to get an idea of what would need to be done.
i believe that your ECU can be chipped for like $150. i'm not a 100% sure, but when i got cams and stuff for my 4th gen VTEC prelude, i went to inlinefour and they said they could chip my ECU. why don't you give it a shot? http://www.inlinefour.com
hope this helps, good luck
p.s. you will have to ship them your ECU and a money order and they will send it back to you after they chip it. i'm pretty sure they still do that stuff.

ya if you want it to rev higher then you have to get the chip installed it takes a week there and back so you would need transpertation for a week and you will gain about 5 or 6 hp at the most i will find the web site that they so it

You can NOT remove the rev limiter on your 5th Gen ECU and it can NOT be chipped. Your only option is to move to another ECU, either standalone, OBD I chipped, or maybe even the JDM S-Spec or Type-S ECU which has a slightly higher redline.
You do not want to do this until you have upgraded your valvetrain to support it.

I am not worried about it to much now, it down the road, if I do a complete engine rebuild, and my redline gets bumped up to 9k rpm's, I dont want to be limited by the rev limiter. I heard about that Hondata, but I would have to change my OBD2 to an OBD1 from a Civic or somthing, then with the Hondata I can do all the changing of rev limiter, VTEC, ect. My worry on that is how will the H22 react to an ECU from another car?
If you get an OBDI P72 ECU, and either have it programmed by HASport, Hondata, or anyone else, you will be just fine. The H22 can run off of different ECU's as long as the ECU has been programmed for the specs of the H22. Like with my H22, I have a P72 that HASport programmed for me.
