Default tell me about Civic Si's (1994 year)

Looking to pick up a 1994 Civic Si as a daily driver (or maybe track car...down the line)

Can any of you guys tell me a little about this car?

Reliable?

Performance? HP?

Anything to watch out for in a used Si?

good, reliable daily driver, you could track it although it's the heaviest of the 5th gen hatches. as far as things to look for....check the rear quarter panels for "honda cancer" (rust),good luck.

where's the weight come from? Is it because of the larger engine?

It's got more options, (ie: power equipment), sunroof...

But, it does have the more powerful engine that the DX/VX/CX has.

if you want more options then go with the SI it has power stuff and sunroof

but if your wanting a track car, im assuming youll swap the engine out, the motor isnt going to matter. so go with the DX, CX, or VX thier lighter.

i thought the SI's stock hp was around 125-130? but please correct me if im wrong.

isnt insurance going to be higher witht he SI as well?

i would just go with the DX

yeah...i was thinking about keeping the stock Si engine for the track.

I don't really want to get into the swaps and what not.

And for $2900, it's not a bad price, correct?

if it's in good condition w/ decent mileage I'd jump on it.

you'll find alot of good information if you search here, and if you go on autotrader.com and look at the specs of the car. itll have engine size, weight, factory options, etc... hope that helps

Edit: o yea, i'd definatley jump on a 2900.00 Si if it was in decent shape

well...here's the other question, guys.

I'm also looking at a 1995 Miata for $3200. It's got the 1.8L engine...but the exterior is a little more beat up. 70k miles though and running strong. Anyway...I know this is probably the wrong place to ask, but given the two, which would you go with.

reliable? It's a honDUH!

Performance? 130hp?/106TQ sohcVTEC

Forgot your other quesiton.

You won't be able to find a nice one, these vics were rare, if you do find one, it won't be in the nicest condition, and if you do find a good one be prepared to pay for it. 4000-maybe 5000.

Do some searching also.

very reliable cars and can be easily trackable. pretty good platform in the stock class.

motor is a d16z6 sohc vtec.

si's are pretty rare to find especially one in good condition.

If the miata is beat up i wouldnt do it.

However, miatas are great autox cars, and have a pretty strong aftermarket following.

http://www.racing-beat.com has some good part, maybe you could look into them, and see if it is something you would like.

The civic si has 125hp, 106ft. It weighs more than other civics of the same year because it has a sun roof, ac, ps, pw, pl etc. But is still not a bad car. It also has 4 wheel disc brakes, which is a plus if your looking at tracking it a little.

I bought my 94 si hatch about 3 months ago, and I LOVE it. It handles very well, and the horsepower it has makes it fun. I never liked driving before, but now I make little trips to the store cause it's a lot of fun to drive Takes corners like a beast. I spent 2800 for mine - but mine needed rotors and brakes replaced, and is oxidized on the hood and roof, with a small spot of rust on the rear fender. As soon as you get yours, I recommend two things: 1. headlight buzzer (I've had a dead battery about 6 times now) 2. fuel pump cutoff switch (you'll love this car a ton, and all the stories on here will scare you)

i have a 93 si now and i love it. the fact that it is an Si makes the resale value more then any other model. the weight ratio can easily be handle with a little weight reduction. the best part of all is you can wave through your sun roof since Si are the only models with them in the year span of 90-95

The D16Z6 that comes in the 94 Civic HB Si has 125HP. It basically has power everything, even though there were some options like there are with most cars. Most people don't get it because it was more than the other models, but truthfully, it's a HB. It's already light as hell. It's quick too-- runs mid 15s I'm pretty sure with some really minor mods. I went with the EX Coupe, it's basically the big brother to the Si HB. If anything, play with the motor to make up for the weight, but at least get yourself power windows and what not. You want your car to be more enjoyable.

a freind of mine got a good deal on a 94 SI with 71k original miles EXCELLENT interior an exterior for only 2900... the kid who owned before him was the only owner he had since he was 16 but then the kid went off to college or something so it sat for 3 years in his dads garage.... so i think saying theres none out there in mint condition isnt entirely true... its not the fastet thing in the honda world or even the best handling... but its def. a fun car to drive... for 2900 you cant go wrong
