Hey guys ive been doing alot of thinking and was wondering what you guys think?
I currently have a gsr in my car. The only problem with that is that my rings are fried and my car uses up alot of oil. There for im debating whether on getting a complete type r($4100+ship) motor from hmotorsonline.com or getting a gsr long block($1800+ship) from there also and purchasing a turbo kit also($2-3K).
EDIT : Let me make myself more clearer if i get the gsr im going turbo if i get the type r im staying n/a.

Aren't there reputable shops in your area that can re-build your motor for you? You might as well. Go to http://www.importbuilders.com so you can have an idea to base your build upon.

my thoughts exactly..just rebuild it and turbo it....no point in buying another 1.8l block...........

Rebuilding will cost nearly as much, because I would have to take to machine shop have them hone the block install the pistons and rings. That did cross my mind im still debating though I was thinking of getting some better pistons and and rods take it to machine shop and have them make it pretty much ready for turbo got more research to do first.
A good rebuild will probably end up costing you more than $1800 providing they do some head work too. But your motor will be brand new(not a junk yard motor) and you will know it can handle the boost. I don't know why you would even consider buying a stock motor at all. But a hype-r is kind of tempting, but weak in comparison to a built turbo gsr.

I think people would notice the big *** intercooler before they would know that i have a type r in my car even now that i have a stock *** gsr i still dont show my engine

yes u can paint them..flat black

exectly what i was thinking of doing, but i guess i've done some research and decided on gsr b18c from (hmotorsonline.com) instead of typeR b18c.. so i paid $2G's shipped 3 days ago, should be getting it soon.. anyhow, id say it might be better to go w/gsr motor because, it'll be more safer to boost it 8psi on stock gsr internals then 8psi on stock typeR internals, because as you know gsr already has a lower compression.. at least my suggestion.. go with gsr + t3/04..

Exactly. For the same price as a used B18C longblock, you'll have a brand new, rebuilt block that's stronger for boost. You have to remember that every time you buy a used engine there is a chance that it's toast, burning oil, and everything. I would just rebuild your motor with stock pieces, except maybe some forged pistons in case you do turbo it later on.

i think this homie cant get it through his head that it would be better to just rebuild the old block and turbo it. theres's no guarantee that the engine your gonna get from hmotors wasnt put through HELL BEFORE you got it. but hey im no one to tell you what to do. good luck with everything.
Why buy a new motor when the one you have is perfect for turbo? Sleeve and get new pistons/rods. Then either get a turbo kit or piece a turbo kit together. You said you wanted a fun weekend driver, so you might want to check out the kits.
