Default Oil Leak Problem on the oil pressure sensor...BLOCK

OK so I got the all motor b16 running with vtec...and it pulls hard...except I noticed a small leak...this leak was so minor it looked like you needed to tighten a bolt. SO anyways this dude works on my car... takes off my oil pressure sensor from under the manifold...where the leak was coming from.. and then we start the car and bam a flood of oil spills....so im like ****.. I look and I see the housing for the sensor is split? I dont know how deep or how that could of happened? is it possible to pop the engine so easily there...anyways...the dude trys like 60 dollars worth of jb weld and no deal...still a steady stream can flow out.... Is there something tricky about a oil pressure sensor...and wtf if its cracked can I get it welded....or do I have to buy a new block?????

dude, this just happend to me, still mending the prob, ill let you know if i get it to stop. c i had a small leak on my connection to my oil pressure guage, took all out to re teflon it... put it back together and huge puddle of oil. cleaned it up took all apart, then found the crack. hairline on block at the sensor mount point. cleaned it real good and covered all the way around with jb weld, let cure, going on 2 days after re coating since i can only see the bottom of the tap... so in the morning im gonna give the biach a start and see what happens. if still, i may just run a threaded pipe further in the tap, and add a T to re mount sensor and line for guage.

Hey man its good to hear your idea's because we have the same exact thing going on...I have so much JB weld its ridiculous. I think I might try your idea about the pipe if I can rig a setup like that. I dont know....its not looking good and Im limited on resources since I was out visiting a friend. Let me know what happens tomorrow morning.

jb weld still leaks, think i missed the crack. thisr morning i used an extension mirror to isolate the leak (@ 10 oclock on the tap) and put some more on ... tonight ill fire her up again and see what happens. if still leaky, ill thread a 10mm pipe in there and try that. if that dont work, guess ill pull the IM and have a better look. Dreading that though.

I pulled the im three times...
each time I applied a new layer of jb weld. Its funny because you cant really see any cracks...except for the lip where the pressuse sensor connects....I might try the pipe idea...but yeah it still leaks...I dont think jb weld is going to get it for us....keep me up to date.

going thru the exact same problem. jb weld is NOT going to work. its funny cause the crack is just a hairline fracture but the jb weld just cannot seal it for some reason. i'm gonna get it welded.

talked to a buddy, had the same prob on his turbo 2000 SI. he said he tried jb weld, no worky. then out of options, tried jb and let it set for just over 3 days. he is now and has been running on it for 3 months now, no problems whatsoever.... so i have all weekend, so i did it again, jbweld, come on pull through......

When I installed my oil pressure guauge I had to t into the sensor. I had a small leak at first. Took it out a re-tefloned it and no leaks anymore. I was getting a little worried because I have heard of a lot of mishaps with leaks. In my helms manual it says the sensor is a british pipe thread, what type of threads are you guys using?

bump because I am having the exact same problem and Im sure other people out there are too. I have a slight crack that just gushes out like a river and I used JB weld as well and it still leaked. I think im going to just screw in a long bolt with a crap load of teflon tape and hope it seals off the crack.

what size bolt do you think you need? what length? I think I might try that. I hope it will thread with a crap load of teflon....then Ill put this one stuff I found at az, Its by permatex...it has a 2000 degree rating...and it has no mixing unlike jb weld....supposedly this stuff gets stronger with heat...letting the car idle and heat up the settle after a previous 14hr wait is the curing method...Im going to try this out....let me know what bolt size ....peace

did you see a crack in the walls of the threads to your oil pressure sensor?

Its supposed to be a 1/8" BSPT, but to tell you the truth I really dont care anymore. Im just really frustrated, so i just found a bolt the fits in there. Its a little over an inch long and its not the same thread, but im going to try it anyway. If it doesnt work then, im going to cut off the thread housing as far as the crack goes and just rethread it. Hopefully my first shot at it works.

Let me know what you others guys are doing to fix this.........

well i tried running the 1/8th threaded pipe. def not the right thread pitch. and even after filing down the pipe so it is thinner i still could not get it to run inside the channel any further than the sensor. so i just ran it in as far as i could about 15 mm and caked on more jb weld let cure over the entire weekend. and guess what.

it worked for about 10 minutes of idle. then slowly but surely a drip then two, then a few then a steady flow. i think im fucked..... im now gonna pull the IM get off as much of the useless JB as possible and find the right size pipe, or thread one, and do it right. i sould not have tried running that 1/8 bspt pipe. now i have double work to get it back out. since the channel to the main oil passage behind the sensor runs back about 2.5 inches. should have not problem with the right diameter threaded pipe.

Code 5 is the MAP sensor. Now, how did you fix the leak?

I fixed the map sensor issue car is running great! I had to take out the whole engine...when the engine was taking out the jb weld bonded to the cracked area and the sensor...it completely broke off the sensor housing. So My buddy tapped in a brass pipe. I got pressure gauge from a buddy of mine and now everything is cool. No more leaks! use a brass pipe lots of teflon tape! You might be able to weld it if you dont break off the housing like we did...aiight its time to bounce out in this thing! peace yall!
