Default please clear this up for me.....

my neighbor told me today that oil leaks have nothing to do with oil pressure. i dont see how that is possible, the way i look at it, if you leak oil than you must lose a little pressure whether it be a seal, a drain bolt or whatever. he was pretty confident on this so what you guys think.

oil leaks dont have anything to do with a leak... persay...oil pressure comes from the oil pump making pressure... if ur leaking oil but theres still enough oil to supply the oil pump then ur oil pressure is fine. when ur so low on oil its effecting oil pressure thats when u have problems

yes and no. there is a pressure leak and residual leak. for example you take the VTEC soleniod off of the head. whatever oil that is left in the VTEC oil galley is going to leak because of gravity and fluid flows to the least resistance path. let say you crank over the engine, instead of oil dripping out it is going to spray out because it is under pressure. Oil leaks goes both ways.

You'd lose pressure but depending on the size of the leak it might not be much at all.

Yep, and if your loosing a lot of pressure from a leak, well the leak is gonna be pretty big and you shouldn't be driving it anyways.
