Ok b4 people start baggin on me I did a real good research i even went to kragens, autozone, and pepboys. Ok question is what motor oil should i be using? My car has 162k miles and I've been getting mixed opinions on if i should use High Milege Oil or they regular 10w 30 i've been using. I just want to know what people with milege's as high as mine are using *Bone Stock*

why 10w 40? isnt it thicker?

 

10w40 is thicker, which is probably ok if you live somewhere warm (like SoCal), but it's not really needed. If you haven't noticed any oil consumption using your current 10w30 then don't worry about changing to high mileage, it's not necessary.

I personally use Mobil1 10w30 in my 92 LS with 152k miles, I have no problems with burning or leaks, and I switched to synthetic at 132k miles. I would only run synthetic if you want to run longer oil change intervals, if you want to change it at 3000 anyway, just use Castrol GTX or some decent conventional oil.

 

I usually keep my cars long, & I've never used that high-mileage stuff. Sold our '89 Saab 900 with 220k miles & used Castrol GTX the whole time. I think if your seals are getting hard & starting to leak you might think about that stuff, but I'd rather clean or fix whatever needs to be fixed.

yeah i use castrol 10w30 all the time, i used to use 10w40 before my rebuild. Honda recommends 5w30, but 10w30 will be just fine.

 

i picked up 12 quartz of Castrol 10w30 today from pepboys, they having a grand reopening sale. . . . so im set for awhile hahaha

I just got back from picking up some more 10w30 from pepboys, whats with the whole reopening thing anyways? looks like they just painted it again.
