oil pan question d16y8
didnt know where to post this.....
i think i've read somewhere that like a 96-98 Y8 oil pan will not work with a 99-00, is this correct? i dont see why it wouldnt work, but i figured i'd find out before trading for one thats already drilled for oil return.

Correct. Y8 pans are all the same (96-00). They're aluminum, the aluminum pan is the only one that will fit the y8 without modifing the oil pump and pickup.

actually I have been running a y7 oil pan on my y8 for almost a year. The only problem is that I can't use my flywheel dust cover without modification.

i don't think so. Its black unlike the y8 pan which is just aluminum metal in color.

That's correct. The y7 pan is not aluminum. And my del sol with a y8 came stock with the y7 pan as far as I know. Cause when I bought a tapped y8 pan off of here I was suprised that they were so different. But ya, the only major differences in the pans is the material obviously and the gaskets are different.

haha cool. Does your flywheel cover fit? Maybe if del sol's came stock with a y7 oilpan they have parts that will allow me to fit the flywheel cover on my y8 with that pan.
when i replaced my oil pan on my 99 ex (after stupid honda dealership striped the drain plug threads). The pan was steel and the factory replacement was aluminum. hope this helps.

yea probably so. I'm just wondering if yours is tapped in a spot where it will easily hook up with my oil return.

nah its a custom kit. I have a barbed fitting on the pan now with a rubber line going to it from the turbo. Never had any problems with it so i haven't felt the need to upgrade to the fancy ss return line
