Swap a VX tranny into a del sol si ?
I have a 93 del sol si and would like to swap in a CIVIC VX transmission. Will this work? My goal is to get better gas mileage, plus I drove a VX before and I liked how 1st gear is a lot taller, so that traffic wouldn't be as much a pain to drive.
Pros/Cons?
If not, anyone want to buy a Civic VX tranny?
Thanks.

u are true, but u need the right driveline to get the power to the ground in the right manner.
u can also find vx trannys for hella cheap, sence people want the ex/si trannys. u can sell the tranny u have now for like 150-300 shipped if its in perfect working order. (no grinds, or noisy bearings)

i would not suggest it. this is my own personal preferance though. i have a 95 vx...completely stock. the gas mileage is ok, but if you want your car to accelerate at all, don't get it. again, just personal preferance.
plus, i don't really think the gearing is helping my gas mileage any. my friend has a 95 si that is stock, and we both get about the same mpg. but its completely up to you.

has your vx been kept up with the maintence, like the fuelfilter, plugs, and what not. maybe thats why.

true. i have kept up on oil changes, but as far as i know, it is on the original fuel filter, wire, etc. i think i will look into that tomorrow!

For economic purpose, then yes.
Longer gear ratio do give better gas mileage. Example: Your are crusing on the freeway (VX) 3,000rpm @81mph, (SI/EX) 3,000rpm @ 74mph.
The higher you rev the more it take gas. Those number should be accurate, since i swap a si tranny to vx motor.

My 93 del sol runs 3,000rpms at 65mph. I remember the VX needed to drop to at least 4th gear to do any usable acceleration, and would expect the same effect when switching the tranny, but i would feel that since the d16z6 (ex.si) engine is at least 25hp stronger, that the acceleration wouldnt totally suck at 1-3rd gear.
downgrading your transmision? for what reason?
ex/si has shortest gear and is the best tranny for the D series in terms of performance..
i guess if u want your car to be slower/better gas you can put a the vx tranny in..
but why not just keep the ex/si trany and just shift under 3.. ur gas should be good.. i know gas is expensive but no sense to downgrade performance for like 2 mpg imo
edit- didnt see u already had it
/// selll it n get the ex/si tran

DJ_SaNdOz: Thanks, that helps a lot. Looks like I should expect a +4mpg. I generally (normal driving) shift between 2500rpms - 3000rpms.
i3lazedx: Reason for my change is for gas mileage and to have better usability of each gear in traffic. I get pretty tired shifting from 1st to 2nd in 0-30mph traffic. Driving the VX, showed me that I can hold onto 1st gear a bit longer, or have a wider range on 2nd gear.

No Problem. I honestly liked teh 1st/2nd gearing of teh VX better than the EX/Si

Damn, well I guess we all learn something new every day. I always though that the Del Sol Si's had the b16a3. So now I take it those things must be pretty rare then?

they are pretty rear, every Si sol i have seen has had a d16z6 in it, and for some reason most of them were automatic too,
