1.5L VTEC-E engine into del Sol?
Hi all. I'm looking for a commuter that's good on gas. I commute ~110 miles a day right now in an 18 mpg BMW 740i Sport; ergo the search I intended on a Civic VX, but then as I was searching I saw a del Sol. The idea of a roadster type car is appealing. I really would like to get the high 40s that the VX gets though.
Would it be possible to swap the engine from the VX into a del Sol? The one I'm probably going to get is a 1.6L 93 with manual. I actually really wanted a 93 1.5L, but the lady who has it for sale said I could come down last Saturday but neglected to give me an address and has not yet replied to emails. Grrrrrr. But I digress.
Possible? Thanks!

Yeah it can be done as long as you have all the components that make a complete Z1 swap. ECU, motor, tranny, 5 wire O2 sensor, I forget what it is called but it is mounted on the fire wall. And a complete swap can be really hard to find.
It is possible to get 40 mpg with just about any d series. IMO just find you a VX/CX tranny and just swap that as long as current motor is in good condition. The longer gears will improve your mpg. You won't get 65+ MPG HWY but I imagine it would be better than 45-50
I had a vx that I used when I was in town and I average 50 mpg city. Never drove it on the highway, felt too dangerous at the time due to suspension.

You should be able to hit 30+ MPG with the D16Z6 it has in it, assuming it is running well.
My Del Sol used to get 40 MPG regularly city/highway mixed with a D16Y7 and Y7 Transmission. If anything, you could keep the same engine and just run the DX/CX/LX manual transmission. The longer gearing will help with the MPG's
