went to plug my ECU up in my 97 Civic with a ITR swap using a 99-00 Si engine harness. i got a OBD2B to OBD2A jumper cause the ECU is OBD2A. i was scratching my head cause i plugged everything up and had one spot left one the jumper that was pinned, but no plug to put in it. i searched tonight and found this........
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by klungemonger »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Actually the incompatibility with 96-98 has little to do with the cluster not working, Honda rearranged the pinouts in 99 and also moved one of the plugs from the engine harness onto the dash harness so if you tried to use a 99-00 harness in a 96-98 you would be missing one of the plugs that goes into the ECU. Learned that the hard way!</TD></TR></TABLE>
looks like i learned the hard way too.
can anyone help me with what i need to do now. i was under the impression that i could use a 99-00 Si engine harness just fine. can anyone confirm this? can i still use it at all? what should i do now?

let me guess, it is a brown plug? because when I did my dash swap, I left the Si harness on the dash and I think I have an extra plug(Brown) I am not sure what it goes to. I haven't had the chance to really mess with it, and my pass. window doesn't roll up to top it off. Lucky my car is in a garage!!!!
BUMP, cuz I am curious to know what the plug is for. I just figured it was for the OBD2 readers to plug into and read the check engine lights(CELs). Who knows...

the OBD2 reader plug is the little blue plug, the one circled in this picture.

Yeah, I know how to read the codes(I knew it was the blue plug(little one)) but I have a big brown one left over and figured that was the same color of the plug you can't find where to put it. After looking at your pic, It looks like the brown plug is to a relay of somesort(in my situation).
Anyways BUMP, for the orginal question!!!!!!

Actually the incompatibility with 96-98 has little to do with the cluster not working, Honda rearranged the pinouts in 99 and also moved one of the plugs from the engine harness onto the dash harness so if you tried to use a 99-00 harness in a 96-98 you would be missing one of the plugs that goes into the ECU. Learned that the hard way!
looks like i learned the hard way too.

Sorry I might not understand what exactly what you're saying or asking. Are you saying that there is a hole for an plug on your OBD2b to OBD2a conversion harness, and that there isn't an extra plug (from the Si harness) to plug into it? If I read that right, is it a smaller one on the end (D)? If it is, then that's a slot for an automatic motor and wouldn't be used when using a 5-speed. I'm sorry if that's not what you mean, I'm just not sure what you're asking.

thanks for the try. you sort of got the idea of what i am asking but i wanted to know if i have to use a 96-98 engine harness with a 96-98 cabin harness. i have a 99-00 engine harness............... well read this again.

Dont use a 99-00 harness in a 96-98 car. Heard it's a bitch.
Stay with your own year. Use a 96-98 harness to save time/hassle/trouble.

this confirmed the above statement of, the 99-00 Si engine harness not to be plug and play with a 96-98 Civic.
thanks for the info, confirmation of this.
