Ok in my 93 civic, i replaced the distributor and ever since i just cant get the tdc to go past 14 when i turn it. The only way i know is to increase the idle, and since the idle screw on the tb doesnt do **** , i have to tighten the throttle linkage to raise the idle, and that gets the tdc where i want it to be but it has me worried because when i drive it and then put it in park the idle goes up and down up and down , so i loosen the throttle linkage and it stops but then my tdc goes back to 14 or less, and my gas mileage is still shitty. Please help , this is driving me crazy

 

or atleast were could i look it up to fix it

Sounds like the cps on the new distributor was assembled incorrectly. Is this a reman unit?

 

Did you jump the service connector while trying to adjust the timing ?

historically, I have found the service connector to do jack. Although it is the "proper" way of setting timing, I think you will find he is using a reman dist and the crank position sensor was mounted on the shaft incorrectly.

 

My money's on that its a rebuilt dist. Its hard as hell to set it where you want on a rebuilt.

 

I dont know if its a remain, but im pretty sure its brand new the way the guy at autozone made it out to be, which is were i got it.
When i put it on there was really only one way i could find to put it out for it to work, it
fits smoothly and turns smoothly .
How do i know if its on right,?

I would be willing to bet its a reman unit and not a brand new unit. Even if it was a brand new, its aftermarket, which further increases the possability of the cps sensor being on slightly crooked.

Its internal and non serviceable. You don't fix it.

 

cam timing off by a tooth?

retard you cam by one tooth if its off, then that will advance the dizzy.

 

is it inside the engine or inside the distributor , cause in my haynes manual it doesnt list a cps in the distrubitor diagram, what makes you think its the cps and not the timing belt

If i was off a tooth on the itming belt, it would be impossible to get the timing in spec using the dist.

No, not at all. Its mounted to a shaft, pressed on. Cleaning won't fix. Its just plain crap. Thats how reman units are.

This was my first guess too. Is your cam timing off a tooth?

If you're talking about the "cam pulley" which is actually a gear, then you can't. You line up the marks and you're done. Fine tunning of the timing must be done with the distributor. Like I said many many many times. If the cps is off in the dist, it isn't going to work. Plain and simple. You cannot (well you can if you know what you're doing) take it apart and fix it. Your options should include:

Exchange for another unit

Buy one new from Honda

There shouldn't be any more discussion on this. Its dragging on.
