Default wtf is Inverter Welder

hello

as topic says....
is it an arc welder and a tig in the same machine?

what makes it different than a regular arc welder?

best regards moshik galimidi

ANY tig machine can also do stick, so that's no big selling point for whatever machine you're looking at.

Inverter means it has high frequency circuitry inside that allows a MUCH smaller transformer; a 40lb inverter welder can do the same as a 200-300lb "normal" unit. It has nothing to do with any other features, it's just the technology used.

you use it to weld up-side-down. Sorry couldnt help it.

kb58 has got it. line voltage on the wall is 50-60 hz. old welders used big rectifier transformers to step up the power. an invertor take the 50-60hz and immediately multiply the frequency, then stup up,, so they dont require nearly as much transformer.

inverters = reduced size, often a wider variety of acceptable input voltages, fully adjustable AC squarewave and smooth DC opertation. good ****

so... is it better welder for personal needs than a huge tig machine? thats all?

Not all have the fully adjustable AC. For example, the Maxstar, and I believe even the Dynasty 200...or at least one of the models. I forget and don't have time to look now.

Yes, but they are more expensive then the "old school" design. As for which one is more reliable? I don't know..., a guess would say the big traditional type is better, but that's just my opinion.

rephrase: invertors have the ability for fully adjustable AC.

i was under the impression that the non invertor power sources were not capable of some of the things an invertor could do.

sidenote- my 40 year old 5 foot tall Linde still works pretty decently in its old age. all those functions arent worth much if you dont know how to use them.

Yeah, SOME will. It's just like some tig machines have pulse and some don't... some inverters allow that AC frequency and balance changes and some don't.

I believe the inverters use less power also, but the amount of welding most of us do at home, it's not a big issue.

i need the inverter to make my chargepipes/downpipe and once in a while a manifold.

i dont need to weld aluminum.

The biggest advantage of the inverters is the power consumption. It's fractional of a transformer machine. For example, we run 3 dynasty 300s off the same circuit that ran 1 350lx. The breaker is rated for 60 amps @ 480V 3PH.
