Default pinging sound?

i'm running about 12:1cr...it starts to ping around 3000rpm...do you think this is detonation?...i'm running 92 octane and the timing is set at 16 degrees...the car has not been tuned yet, cuz i'm still waiting on some funds...but could this be fixed?

Stop driving the car and get it tuned. That is the way to fix it. You'll be waiting on a new motor if you keep driving it, and you probably don't want that.

Retard your ingition (distributor) 2 degrees.
Grab a bottle of octane boost and get that thing tuned with a Wide Band ASAP.
You really dont want to destroy what you have.

Its not done yet.
Its pinging because your too far advanced at 16 degrees, so turn the distributor back towards the firewall by about a half a cm.
Dont rely on just this GET A TIMING LIGHT and make sure the timing is correct BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT ANYWHERE.
If you cant do this on your own, at least get a bottle of octane boost (will temporarily prevent pinging)
and take the car to someone who can change your ignition timing.

Do a search for the reasons your engine can "ping" and "knock".
