Default Lots of gunk all over my block.

Hey guys I was just wondering what you guys think about this. The motor Im putting in my civic right now has a lot of black gunk **** all over the block... It's not like it looks like it's leaking from a certain spot it just looks like a lot of gunk **** on the block around where the alternator is. The weird thing is it doesn't seem like it was a leaky oil pan or oil filter at all. It just looks like a bunch of gunk got there somehow. I'm hoping it's not something real bad but....

Can you give me the possibilities of what might be wrong with it? or is it natural for a motor to be dirty as ****. it's a 92 d16z6

sounds like mabe an axle boot tore and flung grease all up in there. is it a b-series motor? if so I bet you that exactly what happened. It wouldnt make sense with a dseries because d series motors use a 1 piece axel (no intermediate shaft).

i would use like 5 cans of Brak-cleaner and clean everything. then drive for a little and see what happens.

Is the gunk thick (like grease) or is it thin (like oil)?

Turn your wheel all the way to the left and look at your axle and see if its torn. Put your hand down there and feel for gunk if you cant see. Ill put money on that its your axle boot. Those things are a bitch and half to clean.

yea it's not exactly thin. It's almost like a really thick sludge that has dried onto the motor.

maybe it was the boot =P but does it normally squirt out that much cuz it's over a pretty good radius, not just a small spot

think about how fast the axles are spinning... the grease flies out of those boots when theyre torn.
