hey guys i bought this bare block b16 from css and had him built it. the engine has been sitting for a little over a year until i recently had a chance to install it and have the rings broken in on the dyno. Unfortunately It started having low oil pressure problems spitting oil only in boost and couldnt figure out why until i pulled the motor and found hairline cracks. Its operational life was maybe less than 5 miles. Can this block be saved or did this turn into $1900 junk?

 

Are those really cracks or just casting flash?

That looks like casting flaws. Have you checked the girdle to make sure all the plugs are installed along with the oil pump and pickup seal?

Id say the second is casting cause it has shadow and the first is crack.
Pretty much the exact opposite haha.

 

Since you're getting opinions on both sides of the coin, the only way that you can confirm is to take it to a machine shop and have it inspected. ( not sure how practical that is for you based upon your resources).


That way you get a completely impartial decision, and you can go from there.
