Default Brake conversion GSRvsTYPE-R

so you guys think that a whole type r conversion is worth the money? Im thinking GSR would be just fine. I got a DX and after the swap those brakes just doesnt cut if for me. I dont roadrace or autox so im not looking for the best sh*t but just something thats better than my DX

If anyone knows where to get these parts plz let me know and how much they are thanks

Since you don't compete, you're not likely to gain any benefit at all from brake upgrades. For autox, GSR (GSR brakes present difficulties too) or even Si brakes are preferrable over ITR brakes because you can't fit 13" wheels over the ITR stuff. For road racing ITR stuff is probably the best. On the street and without race tires though, you won't come close to the limits of the brakes you already have.

I know what you're saying. the brakes on my DX fade to the floor after one hard stop.

I'm looking at the FastBrakes GSR kit. It's about $375 complete.

I'd say go with the 94+ Integra conversion all around (All integra is the same, not just GSR). 10.2" in the front, and 9.1" (??) in the rear. easy swap, and you can re use your current wheels/tires (unless they are 13")

The benifit of the R brakes would only be seen on a road race circut . . .

one thing i noticed about the itr conversion when i used to have my eg hatch was th weight of the damn hubs. actually the whole spindle front and rear was heavy as hell. felt a bit heavier then the gsr counterparts. and much, much heavier then the civic parts.

but braking is unmatched for a 2100lb. car.

5lug is cool for road race, but blows for drag racing, you cant fit **** for slicks over them and theyre heavy as hell. best you can manage is some 15in bogarts which isnt the greastest sizing for drag slicks.

Just another thing I wanna say about using the GS-R brakes instead of teh ITR's...
the increase in rotational and unsprung mass of the ITR brakes is not going to be worth it for a car that weighs like 2000 lbs...the GS-R brakes will handle that weight without any problem.

On the side of that, I'll be switching to a fastbrakes type-r kit soon (about a month) and I'll have the front & rear calipers, rotors, and pads up for sale. Just thought I'd shamelessly ***** that.

quick question. does the 94-00 gsr share the same suspension (i.e. shocks/springs) as the eg and ek? cause if you already have aftermarket springs and shocks then that would suck if they don't fit.

easy answer.. 5 lugs are too expensive a swap unless you got a good hookup on a whole setup with wheels and tires too.... BUT I have heard of people getting 5 lug brake swaps for under $900
or getting sweet deals including wheels and tires.... like $1500 complete, thats sick for soem really good brakes, oem quality and a setup that will endure the heat from hard driving /track use much better than your oem DX hubs/calipers/bearings will.

so here is my idea for my '92 civic cx----
1) GSR front caliper with ITR 11" rotor and Fastbrakes mounting kit... $375
2) GSR rear disc brake swap... $350
3) 11.4" Fastbrakes rear rotor upgrade... $170

whopping total of $725 at least, and a total of $895 if I go 11.4" rear rotors.
(I am only going for the 11.4" rear rotors if the car feels unbalanced with 11" front and oem GSR rear brake setup.. my GSR sedan was in need of more rear brakes so I got it for that car...
but will a hatchback need that extra help in the rear? I dont know yet....)

HTH

to the guys who have done this swap already, did you also swap in si/gsr
master cylinders, power booster, etc? i've heard different opinions on whether or
not you have to.

i have a 96 coupe, and am searching for si (99-00) rear brakes, or del sol si brakes.
would integra brakes work also (94+)? gsr brakes might be easier to track down.
is that correct that any integra rear brakes will work?

thanks in advance...

hey, just installed a skunk2 rear sway, there's a thread in here somewhere about it with some nice pics.

I want to know if anyone has tried to use CRV brakes on their civic? I was looking at a CRV suspension setup and it looked strikingly similar to that of a 99-00 Si. CRV is also 5 lug, and the brakes are nice and big.

Maybe I should look more into this..........just think how many wrecked CRV's there must be in junkyards, engine gone but brakes intact!
