weird noise from gsr brake conversion
ok so the conversion was a succsess, everything works fine but the problem i have now is that when i put the car in reverse and back up and hit the brakes, theres a thump noise that comes what seems to be from the front right side of the brakes. When i back up again and hit the brakes, the thump is gone. but when i put the car in first and go forward and hit the brakes, the thump is back and again when i go forward again, the thump is gone....what could it be?? should i be worried? the people at midas dunt know what it is and i dont know where to take my car to get this checked out because i dont think any performance shop would know...what do you guys think it is or what i should do?

have you checked your tires to make sure tehre is no flat spot? also make sure the rotor is not messed up, or that the caliper is sticking. Just cause midas said its fine dont mean anything.

Agreed, that is what it usually sounds like when that happens. Well either the caliper bolt or caliper bracket bolt.

Re: (B20 EJ6)
they said that the rotor has a mirror like shine to it n i should replace it but all the bolts r tight, and it does kinda sound like the caliper or piston is sticking. The people at midas said that when they tried to move the caliper around, it kinda moves a lil but thats cuz your really forcing it to move..i think...but if i do need to replace the rotor, how should i find out what year those rotors n brakes r for?

caliper is a lil different you have to determin weather its a gsr, or ls. also if its the front i would highly recommend change both sides. you dont want one side brakeing better then the other.

hmm i see. how could you determain if it is a gsr or ls then? and for the rear as well? is there a difference in the gsr and ls caliper? because the shop that sold me the conversion said it is a gsr but came off an eg and said it's SiR brakes? iono and they said SiR uses gsr brakes and the rotor and caliper size is a gsr size.

Re: (EG-tofu)
not exactly sure but i believe the gsrs have a fatter caliper then the ls. do a search and compare a set of ls ones to gsr ones. or jsut take one off and take it the auto parts store, have them bring both out and compare like that.

ok well i guess i'll just do that then..but replacing the caliper should get rid of the thump im guessing. if not then i'll be pissed off. do u think it could have something to do with my placement of the whole brakes on to the axels?

Re: (EG-tofu)
ok I went back to the shop where i got the brake conversion from yesterday, they said i have a small crack line in my front right rotor but they're not sure if it is that that is causing the problem...because if it is, then it'll be making that noise all the time. Another thing they said is could be the ball joints...not sure wut it could be still...
