Default Which is a better head D16z6 or D16y8 ??

Okay currently I have a 97 civic DX hatchback which has a d16y7 non vtec motor. I want to change to a vtec head but am debating if a D16z6 head or D16y8 head would be better. Any suggestions on which head would work better. I hear the z6 has better flow but is harder to find with low miles. I hear the y8 is a more reliable head and easier to find. I also plan on turboing it later on. All recomendations and suggestions are welcome. Thank You.

if i rememer right the y8 head has better designed quench zones that help to prevent detonation. i think thats the only real advantage, i could be wrong though

the z6 head flows much more freely, but if you just stick with the y8 that would prolly be best so you dont have to deal with any OBD coversion, like luserkid stated

Alright i think i'll go with the y8 head. Any suggestions on where to pick one up. Looking for one with under 35,000 miles on it. I know there are two for sale on Honda-Tech. Any websites that just sell heads?? Also, what things should be included when you buy a head. Thanks for the information.

if your going turbo, i would stick with the non vtec head. get a y8 intake manifold... and just turbo it. and up the boost, you'd save money too... and you wouldnt have to spend extra money on a ecu and engine harness.

The Y8 head is a much better design. It is a pent roof design, which will flow better.

The Z6 flows better.
The Y8 will yeild a higher compression ratio.
Its your choice.

If your going turbo then... you have your answer (Y8).
If your going all motor then.... you still have your answer (Z6).

edit- They had a detailed post about this with pics and tests to back it up.

Wouldnt this be the other way around?? If all motor then Y8 since it yields higher compresion, which is better for all motor and worse for turbo, and the z6 would be better for turbo because of the lower compression and good flow?
