The only thing I can think of that would be different is flow rate, but they are probably the same. Do you or your friend have Helm's manuals?

The only difference is the size/# of teeth on the gear.
If you use a B18A/B pump on a b18c then you need to use the b18A/B belt.
B16A has to keep the B16A/B17A/B18C pump because the belt will not
fit properly otherwise.
B18A/B/B20 can use the b18c/b16a pump but it has to use the B18C belt.

Not sure why you'd want to rebuild it. They are very cheap.

no they are not interchangeable in terms of fitting the belt cover.

Just picked up a used GSR water pump in good condition... I know it's advised to replace the gasket, but I want to put it in ASAP... can it be reused?

The pump itself is not bigger, just the pulley. The reason it is different than the LS is that the VTEC motors rev higher. With the smaller diameter pulley of the LS, it would spin faster, and possibly cavitate. It would be wise to use a VTEC water pump on any high revving LS.
