thinking about swapping a GSR motor and tranny into my 99 EX civic. hmotorsonline only shows the 94-95 GSR motor whats the difference between the 94-95 and the 96+ GSR motors? and which one would be easier to swap into my civic? I tryed to search found nothing. anything i overlooked sorry.

thats the only difference? well is it that much harder to convert my car to obd1? the swap includes the engine harness

 

i never thought the day would come where i say "search" because you will find that you won't be using the gsr harness... you will be using the harness that's in your car right now.

 

look i dont know much about all this wiring stuff this will be my first swap. I know how some of you honda tech guys love to hate and flame on but can someone just tell me which swap is better/easier in my 99 civic?

 

Well... TECHNICALLY... you should only be putting in a 99-01 GSR motor in your car for legal purposes. But. You can do any of them if you don't give a flying monkeys ***. The good thing is that wiring for the VTEC is already done. Not sure about the other wiring hassles involved with converting between OBDs since I'm about to put a 95 GSR in a 93 hatch.

i'm not one to hate or flame (most of the time) and i usually try to help. anyways, 99 civic ex right? any b-series will fit in and everything has been done before so you won't have any problems finding info and help. you'll need to start by finding a '99-'00 civic si rear t-bracket mount.

 

ok so what are the different years for that motor HMO offers a 94-95 GSR (obd1 not legal), a 96-97 ITR (obd?? legal?). Arent all of the GSR motors 96+ obd2? making them legal in my car? and if 96-98 motors arent legal how can i tell the difference and make sure to get the 99+ motor?

 

legally you're not supposed to replace an engine with an older engine. so since your car is 99, you'll need to get 99+ to stay legal. yes the 96+ are all obd2 but there's obd2a and obd2b. 99+ are obd2b so that's what you'll need to stay legal.
