Just finished my JDM B16A2 install into my sol. Car runs fine, idles good, but vtec doesn't engage. I want to check the wire that runs from the vtec solenoid, but I don't know where it connects to the ECU. The car had a VAFC installed in the past and has been taken out. I just want to check the continuity of the wire from the solenoid to the ECU. Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. Oh yeah, it's OBDI and doesn't throw the code until high rpms with no vtec. The black ground wire checks good to ground.

Which ECU are you using? and where did you add the Vtec wires into at on the ECU?

 

the car was a VTEC model from the factory, all the connectors are connected. Any other thoughts? as far as which ecu, i'm not positive, whichever one HMO sends with the JDM B16A2s (sorry, new to the honda scene)

 

also, i was searching and searching and saw jumpering a4 to d6 a couple times. As well as JDM motors not having some solenoid or something. If anyone can enlighten me as to what that means i'd appreciate it too.

 

When you use a VAFC, you disable the vtec oil pressure sender and it is run off of the VAFC.

You need to find the wire that is coming from D6, and run that to the vtec oil pressure switch. The other wire off of the switch should be grounded.

If a VAFC was installed though, you should see two cut wires near the ECU plugs that are the same color. Find the wire coming off of D6 and if there is a cut wire near it that is the same color, then its most likely from the vtec oil pressure switch. Just solder and go!

VTEC pressure valve

Check to make sure the canon plug back in or else vtec will not engage, so make sure all connections are tight

thanks for the info, but where can i find a diagram of where d6 is and such. The car no longer has a VAFC and a lot of the wiring was put back together with shitty connectors. I pulled off all the connectors and soldered them. I don't see any hanging loose.

bypass it connect a4 to d6
i plan to do mines tomorrow
a4 is vtec wire

Just ground D6

 

Might be dumb, but if all else fails check if you have oil.

 

just grouding d6 dont always work. i know this from experience. my friends car i did just that and after hitting vtec a few times cel will come on. did this everytime
connecting a4 to d6 cel never came on.
i gess its the draw of the card

 

VTP swtich is just a switch for ground. Thats all it is. Check the ground connection.

if it helps anyone, this car was a dual cam del sol from the factory... b16a3. Not the single slammer vtec.

 

what do you guys mean by bypassing the pressure switch by hooking up a4 to d6???

how do you connect the wires and what not?

and what exactly is meant by grounding d6? leave the pressure switch unplugged??

i'm throwing a code 22 as well and i cant tune my car until its resolved.

- grounding d6
- jumping a4 to d6
- connected my vafc again
still have a code 22...

 

you connect a4 and d6 together and nothing?
all you do is get a wire and 2 wire taps and tap the 2 wires thats it.
and unplug the switch

apparently my ecu was fucked or something.
i recently traded a local well-known socket/chip guy my virgin p28 for a socketed p28 and money (i was buying his socketing service).
well that night as we went to lay a base map and semi-tune it,
i encountered the code 22 for the first time. been there ever since...
swapped ecus with a friend just minutes ago and vtec kicks in just fine.
needless to say, i am not happy w/ that guy's socketing service.

ahhh! CEL came back on.
again, tried everything...
finally pulled out the pin i added for d6 and turns out its a little big.
it wouldn't make contact with the ecu's male connector.
i squeezed it with pliers and it was a done deal...

what a freakin' headache!
