B16 Burning Oil in VTEC

I have an SIR b16 in my 90 HF, and I've noticed that it burns oil in VTEC. This is very noticable I can smell it strongly. 2 Weekends ago i was at the track and after 5runs, I was 1.5 quarts low. Anyone know why? I know it's in the cylinder head ( duh) but what parts should I be looking at? Car runs great, just burning oil.
oil consumption is the bane of most vtec motors. since you assume the bottom end is not the problem, and have absolutley no facts to back it up, except that "its new", u wanna look at your valve guides and valve guide seals. now, why dont you tell us the driving conditions when it smokes (WOT, coasting down in gear ect)
Its called blow by! install a catch can so your intake manifold doesnt get all covered in oil. my D16A6 on track catches about 1/2 quart a day. My buddies R catchs just under one quart a day on track... i custom build some baffeled catch cans with a shut off and drain tube that runs down the car for easy emptying.

It only burns oil at WOT in VTEC. No coast down problems or anything like that. And I'm not getting any smoke out the exhaust, plus the fact that it has always done this, even when the bottom end was stock. Also, most of the time my VTEC is set at 4400, but I turned it up to 6000 just to see what happened, and it still only burns it in VTEC, no matter what RPM it is set at.
well of course only in vtec its like my buddy with is d15, "oh it doesnt burn oil when i dont rev the **** out of it" well then dont rev the **** out of it, definetly something in the block dude,

well WOT would be rings mannnn. ring gap might be outta spec on the oil control rings, or the bore is out of round.
anyone else have any more useful info?
BTW VTEC motors have a catch can on the back of hte block.

my 00si goes through a little oil. I even noticed this with less than 30k on the car and previous owner took very good car of it. Do you run synthetic oil. I here this alot from b-series vtec owners.

I though that was the oil cooler. You sure it's a catch can?

Look to the right of that and u will see a black box. One of its hoses leads to the PCV valve. Its about 4 inches tall and 1.5 in. wide. I dont know how effective it is.

thats it. its a great catch can, even drains right back into the crankcase
but there are benefits to running external setups, if done RIGHT. problem is u rarely see them done right

90HFB16B, What kind of oil are you using? Are you spark plugs oil fouled? If so you could have bad valve seals. If your plugs are OK... Pick up some German Castrol Syntec (0w-30), Its german made and says "Made in Germany" on the back, different from all other Castorl oils. Its probably one of the best oils you can buy at Autozone, but its hard to find. It remains a thick 30wt, its actually thicker than other 30wt oils and doesn't thin out and break down like other oils do.
