Ummm...I don't think it's ever normal for any car to BURN oil...
EDIT:
Oh yeah, in response, I've never had that engine, but I'd assume it's VERY NOT normal for it to burn oil when hiting vtec

Re: (KoLRaNcH)
That is totally normal for your engine to eat oil in VTEC mode don't worry. In hondas, the PCV venting system cannot handle large amounts of pressure during high RPM VTEC mode, so it forces the oil into the combustion chamber and burns it. EVERY VEHICLE even BRAND NEW will burn oil, just a smaller amount this is normal in the internal combustion engines, it's just when you are in higher RPM's and VTEC in Hondas you burn alot more oil than usual.
The only solution I have seen was to use an external PCV canister by Moroso.
Another solution to reduce burning your oil, PLUS saving your engine, saving your licence, and savng your life would be to just take it easy on your baby and enjoy the drive.

From everyone I know on HT and at home with a B16, I think you're in the minority. Hell, even my friends brand spankin new S2000 consumes oil when he gets on it a lot.
Unless you're burning over a quart every 3000 or see blue smoke out the tailpipe, then I wouldnt worry.

yea, I might be that lucky few. But not one ounce of oil is burnt even though I engage Vtec at least 20 times a day for the past 2 1/2 months.

Re: (JDM B16A)
I have Crower turbo cams in my N/A H22 and I use about a quart every 2000 miles. Usually a moderately modified engine will burn a quart every 3000 miles. Just keep an eye on it, and always carry a quart of Castrol GTX 10w30.

Tips i don't know? . Everyone I know on HT, 2 buddies with brand new s2000, friends and more freinds with VTEC motors all consume oil
If you know more about tips than me, do you know that every internal combustion engine consumes oil even BRAND NEW FROM THE FACTORY?

Re: (Rayz_Si)
Sorry to come of harsh like that dude,
Look the fact is, every motor burns oil but which ones burn more>?
1.The ones that hit higher RPMS alot (spirted driving, VTEC mode)
2. The ones with worn lower oil control piston rings
3. The ones with worn valve seals.
Some engines burn more oil than others.

Yea, but what B series 3rd gear doesn't grind? B series are known for weird tingling/clicking/knocking sound where around the valve area and 3rd gear grind.

Every engine burns oil. Period. The difference is how much it burns. Industry standard for a rebuild is 1qt per 1000mi before needing a rebuild.
Hondas tend to burn more than other motors, especially if you have VTEC. The high compression / high revving motors burn more than an average motor.
I have to usually put 1/2 to 1qt between oil changes in my D16 VTEC (about 5 - 6K miles)

Re: (AutoXer)
I usually keep a quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30 in a rear seat cupholder. From everything i've experienced a little oil burn between oil changes is normal if you're in VTEC alot.

I've always burned more when using M1; just figured I'd throw that side note in there.

Re: (Rayz_Si)
My H22 was rebuilt about 8000 miles ago. It has Mahle 87.25 mm 9.1:1 forged pistons, Eagle H-beams, Crower valvetrain w/ Crower stage 2 turbo cams, and is fully tuned with a Hondata S200. I still find it burns 1.5-1.75 qts of 10w30 every 3000. So I'm switching to 20w50 Castrol GTX. I ran non detergent oil for the first 800 miles or so, then went synthetic 5w30>regular 5w30>10w30> now 20w50. We'll see what will happen. I may hafta start running maple syrup soon.

Re: (JDM B16A)
It's definitely normal to burn oil if you drive your car hard. My B16 didn't smoke but if I went ot the to the track I would burn a quart after like 20 passes or so.
