Joe Dirt is awesome. But as far as the question goes I think someone was blowin' smoke up your ***. Motors burn oil not vtec. You need to ask whoever is telling you over and over again how it actually happens.

I dont see how the VTEC mechanism itself could burn oil. However, at higher engine speeds you could get some blow-by since you are revving so high. I know of at least one hype-R owner that gets a healthy amount of blow-by and WOT near redline.

VTEC DOES NOT BURN OIL.

Its the increase load on the engine along with more valve lift. The valves go further down the stem and there can be varnish on the top of the stem cause the previous owner never punched it and it varnished up.

The increased reving of the motor uses more oil its comon more stress more sweet

In case you didnt see it the first time..... IT DOES NOT BURN OIL....

your engine just consumes small amounts of oil just as any other engine does and vtec doesnt have anything to do with that directly...

If you must know how VTEC works, here is a link to a vid http://www.honda-marine.com/video/VTEC.wmv and also go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and search for Honda VTEC, read about it then go SHUT your friend up.
