Default my vtec wont kick in...:(

hey- i got a new distributor..and ever since i got it..when i hit 5200..theres nothing.. i can tell theres a slight pickup..but no noise..its just silence. my vtec used to hit so hard; my car would jerk and all that fun stuff. lol.. but do u think i need to advance the timing?.. i advanced my old distributor..and then it went bad-and had to get it replaced...does it hurt my distributor when i advance it?

Check your oil level and do a search in archives under "VTEC".

Does it hit the rev limiter at 6500. If it does you are in limp mode bc of something. I advance my timing to 18 degrees and run only 93 octane. It shouldnt hurt you distributor, but if you advance it too much it could hurt your motor. Hope this helps a little bit.

Advancing the dizzy will not hurt the dizzy, but it may not be good for your motor if it causes it to detonate.

yes there's VTEC in first. When you say "sometimes i have it and sometimes i don't" do u let your car come to proper running temps before taking it to VTEC or do you start it up and go straight to redline?

When I still had the Prelude. VTEC was very weird, some days it would come on strong, some days weak. Some days it would kick in, some days it won't after each gear.

That's why I went turbo, it kicks in all teh time, and I feel it all the time.

Turbo > Vtec

vtec > turbo

first off...read above....secondly....read above, turbo takes time to kick in, all i gotta do is hit 5200 and there i go, and i dont lose vtec when i shift gears, i took out the vtec blow off valve....hehe....

j/k....i like them both, and possibly a combination of the two.....

but.....

ALL MOTOR!!!!

one thing also, limp mode is not what your ecu is in if you can reach 5200 rpm, limp mode is: my car sounds like a chevy v8 and wont go above 3200 rpm.....your problem is no vtec mode, honda limits the motor at 6500 if theres no vtec b/c the engine would go very very rich up there running on the small lobes, so your in "limp vtec mode" i guess.....that doesnt rly matter but i figured i would add it......

check your spark timing and set it to 18, you dont need any more advance to get a good vtec kick....

p.s the ecu has no idea what gear you are in, so vtec will engage in every gear if its currently working.....

im not sure for an 02 civic..but you can feel when it does..theres a change in the tone in your motor, and youll feel a pickup.. its prob around 4600-5200ish. not sure..try searchin it on google. youll feel it when it engages.
