VTEC sputters when engaging...
I searched but didnt find anything pertaining. But i just changed my oil and filter and finally got my vtec to work for the first time ever. But when it starts to engage it sputters for a second. Then the power comes. What could be causing this?
One of my friends had a similar problem...he had a loose wire on the inside of his distributor. After he fixed that it ran WAY stronger. Hope that helps maybe
yeah ur timing could be WAY off if u start the motor and rotata the distributor while its running, to see if it picks up power then u can tell easily! also u might try setting ur adjustable cam gears slightly apart to increase exhaust/intake overlap so that it screams harder at lower revs!!
just my little o2 cents
just my little o2 cents
could be somthing ignition related, check the plugs and wires for any kind of liquid. if they are ok get a timing light and check your dist. timing.
if thats all ok

Ok, this is the very first time vtec has ever tried/kinda worked since i got my motor broken in. I had a thought that is was something with my distro maybe and got to listening and it has a hard scratchin/clicking noise inside so i pulled the cap off and cleaned the connectors that the button hits, cause there was a bit of rust and corrosion in the whole distro cap. That didnt help any, and it kinda felt like i might have lost a little bit more power. I also got 2 nice hard shocks from touching my distibutor which didnt feel to pleasant. Is that also normal? Im pretty sure it was fromt he distro. Before when there was no vtec it ran smooth, but now its not running as well especially at high rpms. Ill try moving my distro and checking the timing. Also is there a common setting people use on their adj. cam gears for a b16? Thanks for your help.

timing light available at any auto parts store. geez. haha, all it does is flash a light when the #1 cylinder gets a spark. you point the light at your crank pulley and you will see the timing marks.
