Engine Wiring Questions
I'm going to do a stand alone unit so I'm only looking for information on the engine harness plugs. I am wondering if anyone knows if the sensor plugs for a B16A3(OBDI) are the same as the B16A(OBD0). I don't need the ecu plugs so I don't really care about the OBD difference, I'm just interested in knowing if the connectors that attach to the sensors are the same.
Thanks,
Scott
Thanks,

The obd 1 sensor plugs will fit the obd 0 sensors. I've added obd 1 plugs to my iat, tps, map sensors so far. One of the emission controls on the firewall has a different plug if I remember correctly. The dizzy plug is totally different.
If your simply comparing a nonOBD B16A harness to that of say a DOHC VTEC Del Sol. Obviously the shock tower connectors are different between the two but there are also some other differences. The nonOBD harness is wired without a VSS circuit, it also does not contain the EVAP purge, heated oxygen sensor, and MAP. The injector connectors are different, as is the reverse light, fan switch (nonOBDs are not wired over the thermostat housing), VTEC solenoid, and dizzy. Most of the other stuff IAC, IAT, ECT, ECTG, and VTM are all the same. Just curious but what EMS are you running?
thanks for the information. I'm running a TEC II setup. Are you running an EMS system? I have some base maps for the B16A, but if you have an ignition map you are looking to share I wouldn't mind trying it out..
Oh that's cool. On all of our high boost turbo cars (street and race) we run either FAST or Motec so that's what I deal with most as far as standalones go. Is your setup NA or FI?
It was going to be FI.. but I think we decided last night to stay NA... I prefer the NA powerband and I'm at the limits of traction in first and pretty close to the limits in second.. so I don't really see a need to throw a ton more power ontop of it as is.
I have a friend that works in a shop around here that uses the FAST system and likes it pretty much... what is your opinion?

Well I've never worked with TEC but I'd take FAST over AEM or Hondata anyday. So long as you have the sequential w/ wideband you can basically do all the tuning on it anywhere but the thing that makes it nice is it's extremely simple. For an extra ~$400 you can get an external datalogger which is really nice when doing final track tuning. If you've got the money I still say build a turbo setup, once you drive a boosted car you'll never go back to NA again. Even with a simple built low boost setup you can have fun. Anywho back the the engine management, for most of our street cars 500hp+ we use FAST. Scott and I are rebuilding our friend's S/FWD CRX this winter and I'm pretty sure he's going to jump to Motec (he's currently running Hondata) which is my #1 choice of EM but also costs a little more. Good luck

Oh I've owned and driven many boosted cars, which is why I think I'm going to stay NA with this one. So what does a FAST system normally cost and are the base maps actually worth anything?
Oh man, and you still wanna stick to NA? j/k, it's cool, I just love boost even if it is pointless on the street, hehe. Anywho the FAST for ~$2300 (for the seq w/ wideband and harness). The Honda harness is a real piece of **** directly from them (messy and nothing fits nice) but I always rewire them anyway. With FAST you also have to run an rpm activated switch for VTEC since there is no output from the ECU. Besides that there's not too much, I always add in a reverse light connector, coolant temperature (just for the factory temp gauge), oil press, and starter output. There also are not any base maps that I know of but it really tunes out fast so there is no need for any. Just basic setup stuff.
