Default Amp no work, Help

I just bought an Infinity Kappa 52a 2x 50 watt amp off ebay. He said it worked previously, but when hooked up it powers on normal but plays very quietly. Does anyone know what would cause an amp to play really quietly but when the gain is turned it crackles in the speakers really loud.
Thanks for the input.
Phill

Well it doesn't sound good. By the way you describe the sound crackling when you play with the gain makes it sound like there is something wrong inside the amp. Assuming everything is hooked up right (power ground and rcas) what could cause diminished volume, or no volume most of the time, is the speakers the amp is hooked upto are blown or the speaker wire is grounded.

Sounds like your speakers are wired to a high ohm and the amps not putting out enough power so the speakers are crackling.

That kind of speakers are you running and what ohms are they? Also are they dual or single voice coil?

Physically impossible to plug rca's in backwards. The amp doesn't care about front/back or left/right. You can wire rca's backwards but not plug them in backwards.
