Default question about a check engine light on my moms van

my moms van is giving off a check engine light saying that there is a lean mixture in block #2...anyone know what this could be? the van has a rough idle sometimes at stop lights after a good amount of driving. and on one occasion it stalled, but started right up. any clues?

If you say what kinda van, then -um- then I probably still won't know the answer...

V6 or V8 engine? There's probably 2 fuel rails, one for each bank. One of em maybe has low fuel pressure? Maybe a vacuum leak only at that one side?

How about an exaust leak that blows against one of the O2 sensors. The sensor actually measures O2 DIFFERENCE from air vs. exhaust. So the outside of one of the sensors isn't seeing clean air?

I don't know how MD does smog inspections. I bet if the CEL is on it won't pass.

Most people think an exhaust leak doesn't matter, they probably don't know that the O2 sensor actually measures difference in oxygen inside vs. outside. I guess it only matters if the leak blows exhaust against the outside of the sensor.

Aren't all USA cars required to have a 8yr/80k mile emmissions warranty?

sorry to hear. my mom had a 99 or 00 ford windstar. it was a piece of crap. tranny gave out after 40k miles. motor blew up at 60k miles. damn van had a bad intake manifold gasket right after she bought it brand new from the dealer and the list goes on and on. my mom took really good care of this van. she doesn't trust domestic autos. she drives a honda odyssey now.

The 8/80 emmisions warranty is required by federal law. It goes beyond the regular manufacturers warranty to cover emmisions componets. It doesn't cover oxygen sensors however, but a dealer will be able to tell you more about what is wrong.

Honda has had a few different problems with the automatic transmissions in the V6 cars. This is being addressed in the latest update for many V6 automatic transmissions. The main problem has been that the second gears in those trannys were insufficiently cooled. This led to heat buildup and eventually the whole trans acting really fucked up. It would start to slip when changing gears, shudder, misshift, and generally act like a big pile of junk. The fix that honda has released is to inspect second gear to check for overheating, and to install an oil jet that lubricates and cools the gears. I really hope this does it, because they have been losing their *** on warranty transmissions for the past few years. This only affects the V6 transmissions, and only vin ranges. If you have one of these, you will know it, either through a letter from honda, a dealer checking for open updates, or the transmission completely ******* up.

If you didn't know about the honda transmissions, you must not work anywhere near hondas and acuras. What dealer do you work at?

Try putting some Techron or whatever in the gas tank. It's possibly more serious than that, but it won't hurt to try.

How's the other normal tune-up stuff? Spark plugs, wires, etc...
