Default Vtec not doing its job

Ok tonight I was driving and no one was around so i ragged on my car a little. When I shifted into 2nd I heard a loud crack and was like Oh ****, so I put back in the clutch. Everything seemed fine so i put it back in gear. Next I start going again(driving normal) and I hear it again and then a ping ping ping off it went into some ditch. I stopped and my car seemed to be running normal so I didnt feel like looking for what it was. On my way back home I tried to engage my vtec and usually at 4200 rpm, it dosnt do it at all. I searched and couldnt find the answer I was looking for. Im not sure if its the vtec solenoid and havnt really got to check out my car because its dark and raining. Its a b16a and the CEL hasnt come on so Im not sure. Has anything like this ever happened to any of you h-t members, and what should I look for in this situation? My brakes and suspension are fine(first thing I tested) and I dont know what it could be at the moment.

So something could of been wrong but yet you still still get it up to 4,200 rpm and try to activate vtec. How is your oil ?
